The philosophy of Het Gouden Kalf is quite simple. We wanted to start a restaurant where we would want to eat every day.
In 2010, Ester Hofenk and Chef Niels Schavemaker opened Het Gouden Kalf, a restaurant filled with passion and joy. With this Brasserie in the harbor of Scheveningen, the owners have two goals that they keep in mind. The first is to prove that fresh, qualitative and sustainable food does not have to be expensive. The second is to ensure that guests long to return not only for the food, but also for the atmosphere and hospitality mind-set that our people have. Every day, Chef Niels actively search for the best products the season has to offer. This quest also embraces our concept of the varying daily Chef’s Menu.
When the chefs have completed their part of the quest, Ester continues by carefully selecting paired wines to accompany the menu. Het Gouden Kalf finds a warm atmosphere and hospitality just as important as cooking. We want to be the restaurant where you want to eat with your family, your best friend and your colleagues.

Every day, we gamble in the purchasing game, the careful preparation and the eventual presentation of the plate to our guests.
